Frequently Asked Questions
Where is your matcha from?
Our matcha is sourced from two small, family-run tea farms in Uji and Aichi, Japan. These farms avoid mass production and grow their tea using traditional methods without fillers or shortcuts. The result is pure, ceremonial-grade matcha crafted with genuine care and generations of experience.
Where is MOMO based?
We’re based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and all orders are shipped from here.
Is your matcha beginner friendly?
Absolutely! Our matcha is perfect for first time buyers. It has a smooth balanced flavor without strong bitterness, making it easy to enjoy even if you are new to matcha.
Is your matcha lab tested for pesticides?
Yes. Every batch of our matcha is laboratory tested to ensure it meets strict quality and safety standards. This testing confirms that our matcha is free from pesticides and other harmful contaminants, so you can enjoy it with confidence.
What’s the difference between your matcha and cheaper alternatives?
Most lower quality matcha is culinary grade, made from later harvest leaves with limited shade growing. This results in a duller color and a more bitter taste, often corrected with added color or flavor enhancers.
Ours is pure ceremonial matcha, made without additives, allowing its natural color, aroma, and smooth, vibrant taste to speak for itself.
What does “ceremonial” actually mean when it comes to matcha?
The word “ceremonial” is often used as a marketing term, especially outside Japan, so we understand that it can feel a bit overused.
In Japan, though, the term does have genuine meaning. “Ceremonial” refers to matcha that is truly suitable for traditional tea ceremonies: bright in color, smooth in texture, rich in umami, and made from the youngest, most delicate tea leaves.
So while the term can be confusing in the West, we use it because it reflects the real standards and traditions followed by the family-run farm in Uji where our matcha is produced.
